In 1955, Minneapolis-based clothing company, Munsingwear introduced the first iconic golf shirt to America.
Legend has it that one of their salesmen spotted a stuffed penguin in the window of a New York taxidermist – and bought it. Before long, the penguin was to become the official mascot of the golf shirt – and so the brand Original Penguin was born.
Great for work, yet casual enough for bar-hopping, its client list has included Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin to name a few. Shirts, trousers, polo shirts, shorts and accessories have all had the Original Penguin makeover, resulting in American classics with a modern appeal.
