Joe Wicks aka The Body Coach, has taken Instagram by storm one recipe at a time. Ever increasing in followers, his #Leanin15 videos and 90 DaySSS fitness plan have taken him further than just 15 seconds of fame - so much so, he’s a best selling author and just released his first workout DVD. We’ve managed to talk to the King of catch phrases and body fat nemesis about being a Brand Ambassador for Bjorn Borg, training and more…
You’ve taken over the Instagram fitness space with your #Leanin15 videos – how did they and the ‘Body Coach’ movement start?
I started my career as a personal trainer and boot camp owner in Surrey, then one day in January 2014 I had an idea. I decided to start posting 15 second video recipes on Instagram with the hash tag #Leanin15. I show how to cook a quick, fresh and easy meal in under 15 minutes. I never imagined it would lead me to having a four-book deal and an online business which has helped transform the lives of over 70,000 people from all over the world.
Out of all your videos (and first cookbook), what’s your favourite recipe?
My first cook book titled ‘Lean in 15’ was out this time last year. I love all the recipes but one of my all time favourites is my Thai green curry. It’s so quick and easy to make and works great with chicken, beef or prawns.
You’re clearly extra busy with all these new projects going on – what does a typical day look like for you?

What’s the one kitchen item you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my wok. I cook about 80% of my meals in it so would be lost without it.
How do you stay motivated when unpredictable British weather kicks in?
Staying fit and healthy is my job but exercise has always been something I love to do. It makes me feel good so I’m pretty motivated all year round. In the winter I’m more likely to join a gym though and do indoor classes like circuits and strength and conditioning.
Are there any big myths you want to dispel when it comes to training?
The biggest myth is that you need to spend hours in the gym and eat super low calories to burn fat. This isn’t true. Just spent 25 minutes doing some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and fuel your body so it burns fat and builds lean muscle.
What’s your ‘guilteee’ food pleasure?
My ultimate guilteee night is a Nandos and movie at the cinema with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food and some sweet and salty popcorn. Then, wash it down with a big pint of Coca Cola and some fizzy fangs. Oooooh that’s a bit of me that is.
Q. Bjorn Borg have a great range of fun active wear this season, which seems like a natural fit for you – how did the partnership come about?
A. My girlfriend is Swedish and introduced me to Bjorn Borg underwear years ago. I had posted some selfies in my Borg undies on Instagram and got a nice email from the UK PR team asking me to become a Brand Ambassador. This was really exciting for me because not only did I get free pants which I love (win), but I also got to try all the brand new sports wear. It’s really cool gear that can be worn around town even when I’m not training, so I get plenty of use out of it.
Q. Do you think it makes a difference having a good selection of bold active wear for training?
A. I was so bored of wearing the same plain, boring sports tops. Bjorn Borg use really cool prints and colours so just like when you wear their underwear, it really stands out. Girls have a lot more option when it comes to sports wear but I think now finally the guys are getting a look in and have more to choose from, especially with the Borg active wear.
