Chic Halloween beauty ideas

Halloween makeup doesn't have to be all black cats, devils and zombies. The SS19 runways were full of beauty inspiration we need an excuse to emmulate, from Tom Ford's exaggerated smokey eyes to Roadarte's matte brights.

EXTREME SMOKEY EYE

A smokey eye with clear skin and a nude lip is universally flattering, and you can take this look to the extreme come Halloween. At the Tom Ford show, dark eyeshadow was swept across the lid and taken right up to the eyebrows. Add plenty of black liner on the lash line and bronze shadow into the corner of the eyes. Keep skin and lips natural, with cheekbones as hollowed as you dare.

SUNSET COLOURS

Draping has been gaining traction in the beauty world for the last few years and now is the perfect time to give it a go. Essentially, draping means contouring the face using blush, but recently this has been taken to new levels with bolder, brighter colours. Take inspiration from MUA Pat McGrath at Anna Sui and use fluro pinks and yellows to sculpt around the eyes.

MODERN ART

Inspired by Picasso, bright matte colours were used at this season's Rodarte show. It's a powerful but pretty look, and probably not something you'll be pulling out for your next dinner date. This Halloween, pair a powder blue eye shadow (we like the YSL Full Matte Shadow in Rebel Blue below) with NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in Don’t Stop (the exact shade used on the runway) and a pink blush. Floral headpiece optional.
