3 ways to style a denim jacket
With spring just around the corner, thoughts are turning from winter coats to lighter, summer jackets. And the good news is, the humble denim jacket is sticking around for another season. But just how to style it? From double denim to mix-and-match hues, follow Lizzy Hadfield's, aka Shot From The Street, tips for effortlessly chic style.
1. Do try double denim
Cast aside any thoughts of Britney and Justin circa 2001, for 2018’s take on double denim is decidedly cooler. Brave the matching denim wash, but throw in an on-trend black waist belt to break up the colour and add shape to vintage cuts.
Soften the look with elegant, sheer blouses in spring colours, like this buttercup yellow one from Biba, and add heeled black ankle boots to smarten up the look.
2. Mix-and-match denim hues
Not ready to try the matching denim look? Instead, team your denim jacket with a jean in a darker hue for an easier-to-wear combination. While Lizzy opts for an indigo wash, she suggests teaming with black for easy daywear.
Still concerned you’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time? Switch up your usual skinny jean for a straight leg style. Eternally flattering, you can pair them with almost anything. Loafers, heels, trainers? Yes, yes, yes.
3. Dress down leather
Leather has become something of a wardrobe staple, but this winter the focus shifted from soft and supple to statement vinyl options. But, as Lizzy shows, a denim jacket can be the perfect way to tone things down.
Finish off the look with a white t-shirt and casual white trainers, to make the look feel more every day, less Pretty Woman.
