A summer's day out with Barbour

British Summertime has arrived. To celebrate the warmer weather, we’ve teamed up with two wonderfully stylish creators, Lauren McDermott (@bylaurenmcdermott) and Basma Kahie (@basma_k) to talk about Barbour’s latest Summer Shop Collection and their perfect day in the sun.

 


 What does your perfect day out in the sun with your family and friends look like?

Basma: It would probably involve spending time outdoors in a beautiful location, exploring the local scenery, soaking up the sun, and enjoying each other's company.

Lauren: For me, summer is about moving as much as we can outside. From picnics under the shade of a tree, to evenings spent hiking across our local hills as the sun goes down. Whatever we do in summer, we try to do it under the sun.

Where are some of your favourite spots to relax near home?

Basma: I love visiting the botanical gardens near where we live, it’s a great place to unwind and appreciate the beauty of nature.

Lauren: We are really lucky to be surrounded by unspoiled countryside, and at this time of year, it seems to burst into life. The pathways are lined with cow parsley, the fields are filled with buttercups and daisies, being amongst all of that is instantly relaxing.

How will you be living the Barbour Way of Life this summer?

Basma: By taking a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and spending time with my family and friends, reading a good book, or just enjoying some quiet time alone.

Lauren: We love to live the Barbour Way of Life through every season, but I’m super excited to be able to leave our jackets at home through the summer months. This is always somewhat of a novelty in the UK. We’ll be outside exploring the great outdoors and soaking up the sunshine as much as possible while it’s here.

 

 

The Barbour Summer Shop colour palette is inspired by rich dawn skies, fiery coral hues of pink punch and sunshine shades. If you had to create your own palette, which classic summer visuals/vibes would you want to pay homage to?


Basma: I would go for bright and bold colours like coral, turquoise, and sunny yellow which is a great way to capture the warmth and energy of summer. These colours work perfectly for summer dresses, skirts, and swimwear, allowing you to add some vibrancy and playfulness to your summer wardrobe.

Lauren: I absolutely love the Summer Shop collection, which captures all the best vibes of the summer. For me, I think it would be similar, with plenty of pops of green, like the gorgeous Candice wedge in sage. It’s a shade that always reminds me of the way the countryside lights up at this time of year


What summer garment can you not live without?


Basma: Anything breathable, like sundresses, linen shirts, maxi skirts and sandals. It would definitely be the Barbour espadrille wedges as well as they’re a versatile summer shoe that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Lauren: The Madison Beach Tote is a summer essential for me. Not just for beach days, it’s big enough for picnics, blankets, sunscreen and the rest of our summer essentials.




What are your favourite pieces from the Barbour Summer Shop collection and how do you style them?


Basma: The Barbour Bloomfield Dress. It’s an absolute favourite of mine, I love the beautiful sunflower print and the puffy sleeves are gorgeous.

Lauren: The Bloomfield Dress is without a doubt my favourite piece, with its dreamy puff sleeves and sunflower pattern. I love the lightweight breathable fabric, which will be perfectly styled with flats in the day but work just as well with the Candice wedges for a more dressed-up look.


Can you share some tips for packing light but still being fashionable while on the go with the Barbour Summer Shop collection?


Basma: I would choose fabrics that are lightweight, breathable and comfortable such as the Addison dress and the Crestifield dress which would take up less space in your luggage.

Lauren: I think the secret to packing light is some very hardworking shoes. I know I’ll find myself reaching for my Miranda sandals every day. Classic tan leather seems to go with everything and works so well with sun-kissed skin.
