About this store
The newest addition of the House of Fraser group, Rushden Lakes is at the forefront of sustainable retailing with a green BREEAM certificate and finalist nomination in the Sustainability Awards 2018. The store has special features such as a passive solar design, maximising sunlight to minimise heating and lighting, climate control by 2 over 90% efficient condensing natural gas boilers, high efficiency lighting, escalators that stop when not in use to save energy and an energy consumption system that measures consumption on a half hourly basis on high using areas. The store is adjacent to the Nene Wetlands nature reserve, designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest for birds, woodland, flora and wetland protection, with a sensitive biodiversity that must be protected. To this end we have become corporate partners with The Wildlife Trust who manage the reserve and all staff in the store are trained by the Wildlife Trust. We joint customer events and staff are also able to enjoy discounted Trust Membership as well as spending time volunteering around the reserve. The store has its own beautiful art sculpture called A Ponderance of Plovers, commissioned for the store by local artist Celia Smith and made from recycled wire. The art theme continues outside the store with several giant bird and animal sculptures around the retail area and reserve. Take a stroll around and see up to 20,000 birds, terrapins and dragonflys. We have a Living Green Wall in store, which has over 2,000 plants and spans two floors. As well as looking amazing, it helps to promote wellbeing benefits and better air quality.
