Ode to Smoke. A voice thunders in a silent workshop, its ambery scent rises in the summer. It is El Lector, the reader of our freedoms. Outside, nature swelters, the heat thickens; there wafts a gourmand smell of Basil and Anise, of Frankincense wavering under the noonlight and the penetrating aroma of Coffee poured into workers’ cups. Silently, we roll Tobacco leaves, their liquourous fragrance weaving into that of Liquorice chewed during the midday break. The day draws on, cigars here and there are lit, a thick plume of smoked Oud and Vetiver seep over the windowsills yet, on the wings of words, El Lector carries our minds to a place of dream, between an herbaceous Lavender and Clove; between a luscious Prunol and a carnal Fenugreek until the night stretches its twilit arms of Vanilla, Birch Tar and Musks. Inspired by Cuban factory Lectors, Royal Tobacco is a tale of freedom, of dreaming and emancipating through words.
