Growing your own shiitake mushrooms couldn't be easier. This clever kit lets you produce multiple crops of rich, smoky mushrooms straight from your kitchen windowsill. Shiitake are among the most sought-after gourmet mushrooms worldwide, and for good reason. They're meaty, versatile and loaded with extraordinary flavour.
Each kit arrives as a compact 3 litre box containing everything you need to grow, with pre-inoculated substrate, cover compost, base tray and lid. Simply follow the clear instructions and you'll soon see the first little mushroom caps forming. Better still, the kit produces at least three flushes, so you'll enjoy harvest after harvest without setting foot outside.
Add them to stir fries, risottos, soups or even a slice of toast with butter and garlic. Once you've tried them freshly picked, supermarket mushrooms will feel like a poor substitute.
This is also a brilliant gift idea. It's fun and a little bit magical to watch the mushrooms appear before your eyes. Children are fascinated, food lovers are delighted, and gardeners appreciate the novelty of a crop that doesn't need a garden.
How to use:
Store the bag of cover compost in a cool place until needed. Place the tray with lid at 20-25C for 4 or more days until the substrate turns white. Soak the cover compost bag, then spread compost over the substrate. Leave for 5-8 days until white with mycelium, then move to a cooler 15-18C spot. Keep compost moist and harvest mushrooms as they develop. Please note: This product cannot be delivered to Northern Ireland.
