'Blue Maid' is a female variety of the blue holly, producing masses of tiny white flowers in spring. Bright red berries can follow in autumn when planted near a male holly. The leaves are less spiky than other hollies and show a distinct contrast between the light green underside and deep blue-green upper.

Because the branches tend to hold onto their leaves far better than other varieties, and also as these standard plants grow with less vigour when compared to younger plants, you get a really dense head, which is why they make such amazing topiary specimens.

Grow in pots or borders to add height or plant a number together as a unique hedge. For extra 'wow' factor, grow this pair in large pots either side of a porch, doorway, or gate.

Very hardy and tough, and with excellent tolerance to British winter weather, 'Blue Maid' withstands temperatures down to -27C, without any damage, and requires almost no maintenance each year, saving for an annual trim to shape.
