This handsome Delphinium 'Guardian' collection brings together two outstanding early-flowering varieties for a classic and highly effective garden display. Including 1 x 'Guardian Blue' and 1 x 'Guardian White', it offers a striking contrast between deep blue-purple and crisp white flower spikes, both carried on strong upright stems from June onwards.
Bred as part of the Guardian Series, these varieties flower earlier than many traditional delphiniums, helping borders look fuller and more colourful at the start of summer. Each grows to around 1.2m tall, making them ideal for the back of a sunny border, where their vertical shape adds structure and a strong sense of presence. They also perform well in large containers, where their colour contrast can be appreciated up close.
The sturdy stems make both varieties particularly useful as cut flowers. Snip a few stems for the vase and they will bring height and freshness indoors too. Bumblebees are also attracted to the nectar-rich blooms, so this collection earns its place in a pollinator-friendly planting scheme.
Grow in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Water during dry periods and provide support in exposed gardens if needed. Cut back after flowering to encourage a second flush later in the season.
