We might not actually be spending this year sipping Glögg and watching the snow fall from a chic Copenhagen apartment, but boy do we know how to fake it. Yes, the Scandi Christmas trend is still going strong, and for good reason – it’s eternally chic, requires minimal investment and is, quite simply, very easy to live with. This year, we’re putting aside the pinecones et al in favour of stars, shimmer and glass decorations inspired by the beauty of a winter sky. Think the same minimal Scandi cool, updated with a dash of festive sparkle and a nod to this season’s star trend, all styled by interiors writer and stylist Cate St Hill.
“A nature-inspired Scandi scheme meets Copenhagen cool”
Start by hanging some simple matte decorations - like these versatile white stars – then layer in metallics until you hit your shimmery sweet spot. Mixing shapes and finishes will keep it feeling contemporary rather than clinical – try lustre, glass and antiqued finishes in a range of round, onion and teardrop styles, filling in gaps with mini baubles. A few of these ribbon-tied decorations will add welcome softness and a hand-crafted feel to the scheme. And don’t forget the classic brown paper-wrapped presents to complete the look – the daschund is optional, but very much encouraged.
