Whether you’re looking for a new signature scent, a gift for a loved one or just fancy treating yourself, follow our guide and discover the right perfume for you.
TIME IT RIGHT
Your sense of smell and hormone levels are closely linked – scientists have discovered that when you’re in the second half of your cycle, your sense of smell is at its most receptive which makes it prime perfume buying time.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
While testing out different scents, where you spritz is important. It may be tempting to spray every square inch of your arm but unless you have the memory of an elephant, you’ll never remember which patch has what on it. Plus, the fragrances will combine, leaving you with a heady cocktail of scent. Ask at the counter for a perfume blotter instead – most are branded so it’s easy to remember which was which. Or scribble the name so there’s no confusion.
THE WAITING GAME
Perfumes smell very different once they’ve ‘dried down’ (this is when they’ve settled on the skin), so revisit the blotter later and have another sniff to see if you like how it has developed.
ASK THE EXPERTS
Our counter staff know everything there is to know. Tell them what scents you like and if you’re looking for something similar, or fancy completely change, and they’ll send you in the right heavenly scented direction.
